Westell Modem Nat Router Combo in Bridge Mode:
This is useful when bridging the Westell Modem with a Linksys, Netgear, or other brand name router. Your modem model/brand may be different than the one tested, but the terminology should be similar.
- Connect your computer directly to the Westell Modem.
- Open your browser to
192.168.1.1

- Click on the
"Configuration" tab, then choose "VC Configuration".

- Choose Click "Edit" on
the first item in the VC Configuration menu, this item will generally
have a PPoE Protocol by default, but may vary from ISP to ISP.

- On the "VC 1
Configuration" window that pops up change the Protocol from
"PPoE"
to "Bridge, leaving all other settings at defaults, then click the "Set VC" button at the bottom of the window.

- Click on the "Configuration" tab, then choose "DHCP
Configuration".

- Turn the "DHCP Server" off by selecting "Off" from the drop
down menu then click the "Save" button at the bottom of the window.

- Hook your router up to the Westell modem, and follow the directions for Linksys Router Setup.
- Open your browser to 192.168.1.1

- Put in your username and password, if you've never
specified one, the username field should be blank, and most linksys
routers using "admin" as the password, check your owners manual or
download one from *download link* for your router.

- On the "Setup" choose "PPPoE" from the "Internet Connection
Type" menu, enter your Username and Password as given to you by your
ISP, these fields are case sensitive. Then click "Save Settings" at the
bottom of the page.
- Discover your IP address tables by clicking on the "Status"
tab, then the "Local Network" link, and finally the "DHCP Clients
Table" button.

- Locate the IP address of the computer you wish to enable
Remote Desktop Sharing on by locating it in the ip table.
- Click on Applications and Gaming, or if on a different
model or firmware, find the tab that has "Port Range Forward" available.

- In the Application field input
"VNC", set Start and end ports
to "5900", choose "TCP" from the
Protocol drop down menu, enter the last 3 digits of your local "IP
Address", tick the "Enable" box, and then click on "Save Settings" at
the bottom of the page.

Westell Modem Nat Router Combo: Must be run in bridged mode with a seperate router, currently there are no decent work arounds; nor is there any decent support for most of the Westell Modems. I do not support this modem as a stand alone device at this time. I highly reccomend bridging it with a Linksys or Netgear Router for maximum networking potential.
This is useful
when using
the Westell Modem as a stand alone unit or with a network hub.
-
Using a web browser navigate to 192.168.1.1 or the numerical address assigned to the Westell modem/router by You or the ISP that gave you the equipment. -
Add VNC services, it should automatically add the correct ports for VNC, specifically 5500, 5800, and 5900 -
Click on Advanced Configuration and add Static NAT, then put in the local IP of the Computer to receive the VNC services. Example: 192.168.1.100(your IP may be different).
